Greater Ottawa County United Way & Volunteer Center in partnership with the Ottawa County Mentoring Collaborative

The following are current mentoring opportunities throughout Ottawa County. Please contact Megan Pitcher at Greater Ottawa County United Way & Volunteer Center at (616) 396-7811 for more information on these or other volunteer opportunities.

Arbor Circle
One on one short term and long term mentoring with youth ages 10-21 who are participating in independent living and family counseling programs.

Barnabas Ministries
Bringing hope to high-risk youth and families by providing Christian mentors to work with youth ages 9-17 in Ottawa and Allegan counties.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lakeshore, Inc.
Creating competent, confident and caring children by providing mentoring relationships between volunteers and children. One-to-one community based mentoring and School Based mentoring programs.

CASA and Wrap Around
CASA trains volunteers to serve as a “court appointed special advocate,” and provides children with a voice in court. Wrap Around serves children and youth at risk of being placed in out of county residents or who are entering the community from residential programs.

Community Mental Health of Ottawa County
Matches mentors with a developmentally disabled or mentally impaired individual who would like to develop more social relationships.

Higher Horizons
Child and Family Services of West Michigan
Providing a positive adult role model to children ages 5-15 from single parent and foster care homes.

HOSTS
Matches Spring Lake area students who need extra help in language arts with a community mentor.

Journey
Ottawa County MSU Extension
Reduces the frequency and severity of the offenses committed by delinquent youth ages 8-17 by matching them with a positive, caring adult role model. Traditional mentoring and detention visitor program for youth in Ottawa County.

HOPE (Holland Opportunities in Professional Experiences)
Jubilee Ministries
Helping middle and high school students work toward future careers.

Kid’s Hope USA
Recruits members through their local church to build a relationship with an at-risk elementary age student.

STARS
Matches Grand Haven area students who need extra help in language arts with a community mentor.

Strive
Grand Haven Rotary Club
Matches Grand Haven High School students with mentors to help them work through difficult requirements toward graduation.

Migrant Mentoring
Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance (LEDA)
Pairs mentors with migrant children to educate and develop social relationships.

2008 Community Assessment Lunch and Launch Event, Tuesday, September 30, at the Pinnacle Center in Hudsonville
More than 100 community leaders and social service agency directors gathered at The Pinnacle Center in Hudsonville on September 30 as Greater Ottawa County United Way hosted the launch and "green release" of the 2008 Community Assessment for Ottawa County.  For more information, click here.
 
 
2008 DAY OF CARING September 18, 2008
More than 600 community members from area businesses, schools, churches and service organizations will perform service projects at approximately 70 sites throughout Ottawa County, coordinated by Greater Ottawa County United Way’s Volunteer Center. This is a way for individuals and organizations to give back to our community and extend a helping hand to our neighbors in need—in short, to LIVE UNITED.
