Volunteers Across County Come Together
for United Way’s Day of Caring
September 22, 2005 - Hundreds of community
volunteers are putting what matters to action today,
Thursday September 22, 2005. Four hundred energized
and dedicated corporate, student, and service group
volunteers have been unleashed in our community and
are improving lives during Greater Ottawa County United
Way’s Fifth Annual Day of Caring. Nearly 50 service
projects throughout Ottawa County will be completed
by Day of Caring volunteers.
“It’s incredible that dozens of generous
business and hundreds of caring people continue to take
time out of their busy schedules to brighten someone’s
day—even year, by a single act of kindness,”
says Adam Twa, United Way’s Volunteer Center Coordinator.
Teams from local companies, schools, and service clubs
are working diligently throughout the day completing
projects ranging from aiding a citizen who needs help
with yard and home maintenance, reading to children,
to helping a local agency get organized by painting,
cleaning and updating their facility.
“Four hundred volunteers are saving over $30,000
in labor today because volunteers are stepping up to
the plate to help individuals and organizations in need.
Those are some big numbers,” states Twa. “What
matters even more than that though is that a senior
citizen is able to remain dignified and in their home—and
know people in their community care about them. Local
agencies are able to continue doing their good work,
because of storage and play facilities being built or
refurbished. Whether they know it or not, our volunteers
are improving hundreds of lives right here in our community.”
Greater Ottawa County United Way officials would like
to thank event sponsors Fifth Third Bank, Magna Donnelly,
Harbor Industries, Mercantile Bank, Macatawa Bank, Huntington
Bank, Grand Haven Bank and The Holland Sentinel for
their generosity and dedication to our community.
