United Way Activates the Hurricane Katrina Response Fund

September 1, 2005 - United Way of America and United Way affiliates local to the affected areas are working together with disaster response partners to identify and assess the most serious needs of communities devastated by Hurricane Katrina. United Way of America has activated the Hurricane Katrina Response Fund to help these communities rebuild after this devastating event.

“When major events like this happen, our caring community, and communities like ours, want to help victims of the disaster,” says Sylvia Geisler, President, Greater Ottawa County United Way. “That is why United Way of America has activated the Hurricane Katrina Response Fund, for citizens to make an easy and effective difference in the lives of those who were affected. Knowing that people want to help in any way they can, at this point the best way to help is by making a donation to the relief efforts.”
