United Way’s Volunteer Center Helps Organizations Celebrate Volunteers During National Volunteer Week

March 28, 2004 - Greater Ottawa County United Way’s Volunteer Center is painting the town red again this year with the Red Ribbon Campaign during National Volunteer Week, April 17-23. United Way’s Volunteer Center is encouraging all organizations who utilize volunteers’ talents to order red ribbons (free of charge) in the shape of a “v” for “volunteer,” and give them to their volunteers to wear during National Volunteer Week.

“So many things in our community are created and done by volunteers and often times, people don’t realize it,” says Adam Twa, Volunteer Center Coordinator, Greater Ottawa County United Way. “National Volunteer Week is a great way to call the public’s attention to all that they do to improve our community. The Red Ribbon Campaign is not only for volunteers to be recognized for their time and talents they share, but by wearing the ribbon, we are able to see the number of people out in our community volunteering on a daily basis.”

National Volunteer Week is a week dedicated to honoring those who spend their time volunteering to better our community. Sponsored by the Points of Light Foundation and the Volunteer Center National Network, National Volunteer Week is in its 31st year and is celebrated annually during the third full week in April.

“Everyday volunteers are doing great things,” says Twa. “From those who work with our youth to those who help us in emergency situations, volunteers inspire us by leading by example.”

If you have volunteers who help you or you are a volunteer yourself, participate in United Way’s Red Ribbon Campaign. Ribbons are free of charge. For more information and to order ribbons, contact Adam Twa at 396-7811 or 842-7130 or download the forms below:
