United Way & Volunteer Center Looking
for Community Investment Volunteers
January 20, 2005 - Greater Ottawa
County United Way & Volunteer Center is currently
recruiting Community Investment Volunteers, throughout
Ottawa County, to serve on panels during the Community
Investment process. Volunteer panelists will make important
decisions regarding the funding of necessary health
and human service programs in Ottawa County. All volunteers
will be asked to attend an orientation meeting prior
to beginning the process.
“One of the unique features of United Way is
the distribution of funds by local volunteers. Local
volunteers give many hours reviewing programs, financial
reports, and assessing the impact that the program is
having on the lives it is touching. Serving on the Investment
Committee is a wonderful way to learn about our diverse
community and the many issues that are being addressed,”
says Liz Vanderby, Director of Community Investment
for United Way & Volunteer Center.
Last year, nearly 100 volunteers from around the county
volunteered with United Way & Volunteer Center during
this Community Investment process (formerly referred
to as Allocations). Volunteers represent the community
where they live and work, and serve on panels based
on the focus area of their choice: Helping Kids Succeed,
Strengthening Families, Fostering Self-Sufficiency,
Empowering the Disabled and Promoting Independence for
Seniors.
“We are looking for people who are passionate
about improving the quality of life in our community,”
says Vanderby.
