United Way of America Recognizes Pfizer as Spirit of America Summit Award Recipient

Pfizer honored at national 2004 United Way Leadership Forum

TAMPA, FL – United Way of America (UWA) honored Pfizer on Thursday, May 20, at its national United Way Leadership Forum in Tampa with a Summit Award as part of its coveted Spirit of America Awards (SOA) program. The SOA program recognizes a company's outstanding commitment to improving lives in local communities. UWA recognized Pfizer as an award recipient in the Employee Community Investment and Corporate Community Engagement categories.

“Pfizer's generous spirit and its commitment to sustaining community impact are noted worldwide,” said UWA President Brian Gallagher. “The results of Pfizer's efforts make a measurable difference to improve people's lives and strengthen communities around the world.”

As a research-based global health care company, New York City-based Pfizer targets its philanthropy efforts at partnerships to improve access to quality health care, building scientific knowledge and skills among teachers and students, and strengthening communities where its employees work and live. Given its principal philanthropic objective to promote access to medicines for people in need around the world, Pfizer uses its resources and wealth of talent and expertise around efforts that address critical issues in communities, both in the United States, and internationally.

In the U.S., through its Sharing the Care and Connection to Care programs, Pfizer has designed efforts to systematically assist low-income and uninsured patients in securing necessary medicines. Pfizer has made an impact in Ottawa County Community as well. Locally, Pfizer participates in United Way & Volunteer Center's Day of Caring, helping agencies and families with various activities, encourages employee volunteer involvement throughout the community and provides prescription assistance to senior citizens through United Way & Volunteer Center funded senior programming.

“I would like to congratulate Pfizer on this award,” says Sylvia Geisler , President of Greater Ottawa County United Way & Volunteer Center. “We're proud to have them as a community partner, helping to improve the quality of life in Ottawa County.”
