Greater Ottawa County United Way & Volunteer Center Announces Sylvia Geisler as New Executive Director

March 2, 2004 - Greater Ottawa County United Way & Volunteer Center Board of Directors is proud to introduce Sylvia Geisler as the organization’s newly appointed Executive Director. Geisler, who has been with the United Way movement for almost 20 years, will officially start her position with United Way & Volunteer Center on April 1, 2004.

“We are really excited that Sylvia has joined our organization,” says Bob Rander, Board President for Greater Ottawa County United Way & Volunteer Center, “Sylvia comes with nearly 20 years of United Way experience, having been executive director of four other United Ways similar to our size. In speaking with Sylvia, we were very impressed with her leadership qualities, the ideas she outlined for moving the organization forward and her enthusiasm for Greater Ottawa County United Way & Volunteer Center.”

Geisler has served as Chief Professional Officer for Butler County United Way in Hamilton, Ohio; Tompkins County United Way in Ithaca, New York; United Way of Acadiana in Lafayette, Louisiana; and United Way of Delaware County in Delaware, Ohio. In addition to successful fundraising, Geisler has been highly engaged in community collaborations and coalitions that tackled larger issues and worked toward improving the quality of life for all members of the community.

“I am delighted to be coming to this beautiful community and to be able to work with committed and dedicated community leaders and volunteers.” Says Geisler, “The step taken to establish a countywide organization is an indication of wanting to provide quality services and to place United Way & Volunteer Center in a leadership role in furnishing solutions to community wide problems. I am excited and honored to be a part of this movement and to lead an organization that shares my values and mission.”

Geisler, born and raised in Saddle Brook, New Jersey, is currently living in Anna Maria, Florida with her husband, Richard. She has two grown children who live in Ohio with their families. Geisler is a graduate of Otterbein College with a BA in Psychology and Sociology.

More than 100 community leaders and social service agency directors gathered at The Pinnacle Center in Hudsonville on September 30 as Greater Ottawa County United Way hosted the launch and "green release" of the 2008 Community Assessment for Ottawa County.  For more information, click here.
 
 
2008 DAY OF CARING September 18, 2008
More than 600 community members from area businesses, schools, churches and service organizations will perform service projects at approximately 70 sites throughout Ottawa County, coordinated by Greater Ottawa County United Way’s Volunteer Center. This is a way for individuals and organizations to give back to our community and extend a helping hand to our neighbors in need—in short, to LIVE UNITED.
