Thriving Kids Preparing kids to be successful in life

United Way Cares: United Way is committed to providing children with the building blocks they need to succeed and overcome barriers by providing them with positive adult role models and support, tools that will contribute to a positive lifestyle and protect them from abuse and neglect.

It’s not the fact that: 67 children mentored in a United Way funded mentoring program over a 2 year period received an average of 4 hours per week of one-on-one mentoring. That is 27,872 hours of individual attention.

what matters is: 86% of parents reported positive academic outcomes of their children who were mentored for 2-4 years in a United Way funded mentoring program.

United Way Focus:

  • Mentoring
  • School Readiness
  • Counseling
  • Youth development
  • Substance education, prevention and treatment
  • Child abuse prevention and intervention

what matters.:

  • 82% of participants completing a United Way funded youth development program reported a more positive body image or increased self-esteem.
  • 85% of kids in a United Way funded after school mentoring program improved reading scores of one test level or better during the 05-06 school year.
